Worst travel experience ever: Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport

Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport wrote on the ground that it is the best airport in the world for 4 years in a row. But I guess those who gave that award have never set foot in the airport even once in their lives.

The airport, which does not allow self check-in for security reasons, is built to keep you waiting all the time. They cannot even think of opening a separate counter even for a passenger without luggage, and demands that you stand for 2–3 hours. It’s not because you’re a stranger, by the way: they all deem this to their own people. Unbelievable disorder, while people are barking in chorus without masks, you can’t help but look around and wonder if this is really an airport.

The fact that they paranoidally check tickets and IDs at every gate, at every pass, is probably one of their zero trust in their own people. They manage to make you feel like an idiot with a “this idiot is wrong” point of view.

There is a very good hotel in the airport by Indian standards, you can rent hourly and sleep. But the interesting thing is that even delhi airport twitter account does not know about the hotel. Officials are already giving false answers to questions. For example, when I asked about the hotel; While one officer said that it was only on the domestic lines, the other claimed that there was no such thing.

The Indian police, who did not take me to the airport because it was more than 6 hours before my flight took off, and left me outside at 45 degrees in the dark, later agreed to take me to the visitor’s lounge for 450 rupees hourly.

When I wrote to Delhi airport on Twitter and asked for a solution, they sent 3 officers to help me get into the departure hall. By the way, those officers were unaware of the hotel.

After going through security, there are 2 lounges you can use, of course, with money. But there are toilets on the way to the lounges, and unfortunately the smell of thick urine that has spread throughout the airport is even more here: you have to gag back before you can reach the lounge.

The so-called Food Court consists of 4–5 restaurants that look pretty pathetic. The sitting and waiting areas are usually very close to the toilets and it is impossible to stay for a long time because of the smell or a snoring noise.

Most of the carpeted floors are extremely dirty, I have seen papers, Coke cans, even cans on the floor. If the award-winning airport is like this, one thinks how it is without an award, right?

Frankly, airports in other cities are 10 times better than Delhi Airport, even the smallest.
